HISTORY OF WOMEN DOING SOLO CIRCUMNAVIGATIONS

There have been only six recorded solo circumnavigations by women. England's Naomi James, Poland's Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz, and France's Brigitte Oudry all sailed around the world south of the Great Capes in 1977-78. Then, in 1988, Kay Cottee of Australia became the first woman to circumnavigate non-stop from Sydney to Sydney. France's Isabelle Autissier, single-handed BOC veteran, did her first circumnavigation in the 1990-91 BOC. American Tania Abei came very close to sailing alone by herself, but she did have a companion aboard for a short amount of time. Samantha Brewster is the most recent, having set out from Southampton (UK) in October, 1995 and completing the course in 161 days. Karen's voyage will be the first successful solo circumnavigation by an American woman.

Ich weiß den Namen nicht mehr, aber es ist die Mutter von Wilfried Erdmanns Frau Astrid - Einhandseglerin war die, aber ich weiß nicht ob sie auch um die Welt gesegelt ist.....

Wie mir heute Frau Erdmann erzählte, hat Frau von Heister zwei Atlantiküberquerungen alleine gemacht - und es gibt davon auch Aufzeichnungen, aber der Verlag wollte das noch mal überarbeitet haben und dazu hatte sie keine Lust. Schade eigentlich.
